The Struggle of Participating in non-democratic Texas
The Green Party of Texas is a predominantly volunteer political party. People from waitstaff to Doctors of Mathematics who donate their time and money to the cause. Most, if not all, of us have no professional training in politics. We are not professional fundraisers, campaigners, media gurus, etc. We do work together with the resources available to create a new paradigm of democracy.
We are here because we dislike the political games of the status quo political party machines and are endeavoring to create a new model of citizen politics of participation and sustainability.
People assume that we are well-funded and just like those running the political machines of the D & R parties. This has never been true. The majority of us have full time jobs, families, and would like to have some down time now and again.
So things are spartan, most of what happens behind the scenes stays there due to lack of time and resources to get it out to the public.
Because we are working to bring a force for the people to the state of Texas, we are usually met with backlash from those who hold power via slanderous comments in the media, lawsuits, election law designed to prevent participation and more. The powers that be attempt to scare the voting populous into keeping them in power for fear that something worse might happen if you don't.
This is a powerful force to overcome, not to mention the inertia inherent in society around participatory democracy.
Tell your tales of struggle to be Green, Libertarian, or Independent in the state of Texas.
The more people know, the more we will be free from the propaganda machine!
