GPTX Update – Filing to Run for Office, Solidarity Initiatives, & Administration

Your Green Party of Texas State Executive Committee has been hard at work. In addition to helping Presidential Candidate Dr. Jill Stein tour Texas recently, GPTX SEC also has opened the call for candidates on the 2016 ballot. If you are interested in running for office as a Green in 2016, click here for an application form and official information & complete this survey to coordinate with GPTX. The window for filing closes December 14th, so the time to stand as a candidate in support of people, peace, & planet over profit is now!

Please return your completed & notarized candidate application to your county or state co-chairs and mail your original to:

Green Party of Texas
P.O. Box 271080
Houston, TX 77277-1080

Once your application is received, you will be placed on the ballot for the appropriate Green nominating convention.

In addition to electoral matters, GPTX SEC has also endorsed two initiatives. The first is in solidarity with Familias Unidas por la Justicia, calling for a boycott of Driscoll’s Berries in their attempt to negotiate a collective bargaining agreement with Sakuma Bros Farms. The second endorsed initiative is a Resolution on Climate Change, circulated by the Texas Drought Project and endorsed by many other organizations, this resolution will be presented to the chief US climate negotiator at the UN Climate Conference in December, and is reportedly the largest sign-on letter of organizations in Texas ever.

Administratively, GPTX SEC just completed transitioning the txgreens.org domain to the new website, and we are still working to grow county level participation around the state. Currently, GPTX SEC is operating with three vacant seats and continues to request volunteer nominations to serve by appointment until the next state meeting.

Can you support our efforts to keep an independent, non-corporate choice on the ballot? Even a small sustaining donation goes a long way to helping us build our capacity. Thank you!
