June Update

Statewide discussion call TODAY at 4pm!
Read about it & all the other news in this post.

The Texas legislature adjourned on Monday.  Under state law, the governor now has 20 days to sign or veto any bills that were recently passed by the legislature so Abbott has until June 22 (Erin Brockovich's birthday) to veto.  If he takes no action by then, those bills automatically become law.

Lawmakers cannot override a veto after adjournment—making these next few weeks critical for any legislation that passed in the final days.

So call Abbott, write Abbott, introduce yourself if you see him in person - let him know how you feel about the bills & why.  Maybe you'll be the one to turn him Green.  You never know.  We hope to convert a lot of Texans this year and you can help!  The first step is to...

Get involved locally!
Take a look at our calendar:  https://www.txgreens.org/calendar
We’ve got events in Denton County, Bexar County, Travis County, & Dallas/Collin County.  We’ve got volunteers organizing in Tarrant & Harris - they’ll have events soon, so check back for them.  If none of those are in your area, there might not be a local group!  Head to https://www.txgreens.org/how_to_start_a_local_group & send us a message if you’re interested in starting one.  We’d LOVE to see that happen!

Green Education, Onboarding, Discussion, & Encouragement: G.E.O.D.E.

The next statewide discussion call is Today!
SUNDAY, June 8th!  At 4:00 PM!

This month, we'll be joined by Travis Christal, former GPTX Treasurer & Treasurer for Howie Hawkins' 2020 Presidential Campaign.  Travis will speak about the role of campaign treasurer.  Every candidate needs one, so join this call to see if it’s a way you can help.

Get the connection info & RSVP here:

These calls happen on every month's 2nd Sunday at 4pm.  The next one will be on July 13th.  It's a great way to connect with other Greens, so keep an eye on our calendar for details.  If there's a particular topic you'd like to discuss in a future meeting, let us know.

2026 Candidate Hunt

In 2026, we hope to have as many Greens running & winning as possible, so Texas (and the world) has a chance at a just & equitable future.  If you are willing to take on the role of a serious Green candidate in 2026, please review our prepared information and answer the Green Screen Survey Questions.

Not sure what you could run for?  We could always use judges, if you qualify.  Another good place to start is this page, which details different county positions: https://www.county.org/resources/resource-library/education-and-training/duties-texas-county-officials

Not ready for the spotlight?  Consider volunteering as a campaign manager or recruiting potential candidates.  Either way, GPTX needs all of us to become involved in developing our slate of candidates for 2026.

Candidate selection starts with the convention process - if your county doesn't have an affiliated group, please start one --> https://www.txgreens.org/how_to_start_a_local_group

 GPTX needs money!

We operate on a shoestring - all our labor is volunteered!
BUT, with your financial support we could:

  • Have signs, banners, & billboards in 2026!
  • Reimburse filing fees to the campaigns of nominated candidates
  • Maintain & improve our operations

If you can help us grow the Green Party in Texas by making a donation today?  Please do!

Volunteer Opportunities

 Standing Committees

Several seats are unfilled on the national standing committees.  The SEC can approve appointment at any time, if you’re interested in serving in one of these positions.
We could really use help on the Fundraising Committee, but browse the other committees también & tell us at this page what you'd like to help with.

Social Media

Follow us on all the platforms!  Links are here.

To help boost our social media posting frequency, we've created a content calendar.  June, for instance, has Autistic Pride Day & Juneteenth.  It is National Safety Month, Pride Month, and U.S. Caribbean Heritage Month.  Jean-Jacques Rousseau was born on the 28th, so we could post about popular sovereignty.
If you have a little free time to find posting fodder for a particular month, so we have a backup topic for each day, send us a message with "content calendar" in the subject line to help out.

Are you an artist?  We need content for our Instagram.  The donation of some art based on our platform or covering something from the content calendar would help boost our visibility.  Send it here!

 Register Some Voters!

Help eliminate a barrier to voting by getting people to register. Head to this site for more info on how that's done:

Group Highlight: National Alliance Against Racist & Political Repression

The NAARPR was founded in 1973 in Chicago to mount organized action against unjust treatment of individuals because of race or political beliefs.  Its founding grew out of the struggle to free Angela Davis from a racist frame-up on murder charges surrounding the aborted attempt by Jonathan Jackson to free his brother, George Jackson and the Soledad Brothers in 1970.

The National Alliance and its regional chapters continue to struggle for justice with a focus on the following goals:

  • Establish Civilian Control of Police
  • Stop all Police Torture of Suspects
  • Abolish the Death Penalty
  • Abolish the “Other” Death Penalty - (life w/o possibility of parole)
  • Fight All Forms of Bigotry - Systematic or Otherwise
  • Defend the Rights of Labor
  • Defend Civil Liberties
  • Secure Health Care for Prisoners
  • Support Affirmative Action
  • & Expose the Prison Industrial Complex and the “War on Drugs” as the root of the New Jim Crow and the Cradle to Prison Pipeline for people of color

    Good stuff.
They currently just have 1 branch in Texas, so if you live in DFW, https://dfwalliance.org/
If you don’t - maybe you can help them build!

If you know other organizations that are putting our 10 key values in action, send us the info so we can get the word out.

Happy Juneteenth, happy Pride.

In Solidarity,
GPTX
