Happy Juneteenth!
This Juneteenth, the Green Party of Texas commemorates the struggle for freedom that Black people across this nation and around the world have fought since the earliest days of the Transatlantic Slave Trade, to the Haitian Revolution, through the Civil War and 1960s Civil Rights Movement in the US, the fight against apartheid in South Africa, the decolonization movements of African peoples worldwide, & in the movements for racial justice in our streets today.
The dignity, equality, and agency of Black people should never be questioned. It is our duty regardless of race or ethnicity to continue to support Black communities in their fight for liberation. GPTX is proud to do our part in this struggle, following the lead of our Black members and supporting causes such as reparations. We will not settle for performative celebrations that are offered by political elites and corporations that seek to co-opt & neutralize the radical struggle for Black liberation. As Greens, we renew our demands for full racial equality and civil rights for Black people, an end to police violence, an end to mass incarceration of Black people, reparations, & an economic Bill of Rights to end the generational poverty and inequalities that still disproportionately affect Black communities.
The first Juneteenth was a Black victory, and today we celebrate every Black victory like it, both historical and still to come.
