As of this writing (March 2021), Green Party Houston has been in hibernation for a while, but it is waking up and gearing up for Election 2022! We have restarted monthly meetings via Zoom; we will begin posting information about those meetings in the Calendar section of this site in the months ahead.

GPH, a separate group from the Harris County Green Party, provides an alternative outlet for Greens in the Houston metro area who wish to contribute to the growth of the Green Party in Texas. It has four main purposes:

  1. helping with organization of Green Parties in southeast Texas, particularly the counties neighboring Harris County
  2. providing connection to other Greens for residents of neighboring counties with no official county party
  3. advocating for the Green positions on issues in Houston-area municipal governments
  4. cultivating and supporting Green-friendly candidates in non-partisan municipal elections

It is not yet official, but Green Party Houston may begin, in 2022, administering biennial county conventions and receiving applications from Green candidates for public offices with jurisdictions wholly within Harris County. Those offices include:

  • County Judge
  • various county executive offices
    • County Clerk
    • District Clerk
    • County Attorney
    • District Attorney
    • County Treasurer
    • Sheriff
    • Tax Assessor-Collector and Registrar of Voters
  • 4 precinct Commissioners (Commissioners Court)
  • 8 precinct Constables
  • 16 Justices of the Peace (two in each constabulary precinct)
  • dozens of county and state district judicial positions
  • Harris County Department of Education Trustees
  • and, depending on redistricting following the 2020 census:
    • approximately 24 State Representatives
    • some State Senators
    • some members of the State Board of Education

See this page for more information on the government of Harris County and the positions available.
