    November Wrap-up

Thank you to all who voted Green in 2020, making a clear demand for the changes we need. While the scenery of the political theater changes, the circumstances of people's lives remain precarious. The climate catastrophe continues whether we prepare for it or not,  and the empire continues its short-sighted pursuit of safeguarding the status quo.

GPTX retains ballot access through 2026. By holding the door open for progressive candidates to access the ballot without competing in a crowded Democratic primary, Greens serve as a pressure point to force issues into the public debate, and a very real threat that if progressive voices are continually denied they will go elsewhere.

As Greens in Texas, we have a responsibility to maintain our ballot access foothold for the larger national Green Party effort, understanding the long view of the collective project of gathering ballot access in every state.

Greens showed untapped, natural strength across the state, despite having only a few local parties. In fact, some of the strongest results were in the RGV & El Paso areas, which do not have an organized local presence. This is a perfect illustration of the fact that Greens exist, against all obstacles, because the political situation so desperately calls for a party that speaks to our issues. Nationally, Greens picked up several wins this cycle!

More than 128,000 individual voters across Texas stood for a Green agenda when voting for katija gruene for RRC, and Dr. Julian Villarreal pulled 20% in his Bexar County race for TX Senate 26. The public is indeed receptive to the Green message & active campaigning.

In past years, GPTX has operated on very little funds, while constant focus on Democrats has sucked up all resources. If just a fraction of the energy that was behind Sanders, or even just a small percentage of our 128,000 2020 voters, contributed to GPTX, we could do so much more!

GPTX accomplished a lot in 2020. Our ballot access was restored. We successfully contended with legal challenges related to implementation of the new ballot access law. We supported our slate of candidates with a group graphic that we used for social media & signage. We have clarified our candidate recruitment process. We have sent you monthly newsletters without spamming you constantly for donations! We are poised to improve significantly in 2022.

In order to help us improve, you can promote our candidate recruitment effort in 2021 or consider running as a candidate yourself. You can become active by participating with the State Executive Committee's monthly meetings or other remote events. You can help with membership activation efforts in your area, help with fundraising, or donate directly.

A Green vote DEMANDS the Green agenda

    Your Green voice is powerful!

Instead of being erased by the electoral college, your Green vote will be ON THE RECORD demanding a Green agenda, strengthening ballot access & potentially winning federal funding at 5%.

Trump is working with agencies and powers put in place by bipartisan administrations that Biden has been part of. In essence, Biden helped create that very militarized fascist apparatus that Trump is driving.

A vote for Hawkins/Walker is an affirmative vote. It is affirmatively FOR the Green agenda, Peace, Medicare for all, basic income, climate transition, and for strengthening an alternative party that clearly centers this agenda in its platform.

A Green administration would more reasonably follow the guidance of scientists, and could provide a systemic reboot of our government. Greens have access to the same pool of experts & human talent, but bring a fresh, pragmatic, working-class perspective. To me, those things are worth voting for!

With just 2% in a statewide race, GPTX will extend ballot access to 2030. This achievable goal is an important foothold in building viability, so don't allow media & the duopoly to demoralize you! Claim your power by making the strongest showing possible for the Green agenda in 2020! Make sure to get yourself & your Green-supporting friends & family to vote this week.

Help Greens build into future cycles by donating, encouraging candidate recruitment, and staying tuned-in to local & midterm elections in 2021 & 2022!

  • How to operate consolidated Precinct Conventions

    Needed:

    3 volunteers +

    provided forms, checklists, and ballots

    Procedure:

    • The first volunteer station has voters sign in to their precinct convention, checks voter registration card or issues an affiliation certificate as appropriate. Either the voter is the first to their convention or joins an already open convention (sign in will need to maintain a running list). Newly opened precincts should get a sign with their precinct number, so that additional voters in that precinct may group together.
    • The second volunteer station should issue each voter's appropriate ballot, based on their precinct, and convention forms for each newly opened precinct convention.
    • The third volunteer station is responsible for guiding the voters through the convention paperwork process after the precinct conventions have congregated and collecting all forms and ballots when voters are done.
    • Once all paperwork has been collected, convention documents must be promptly delivered to the state party cochair.

Green Party Ballot Access Restored in Texas!

Thanks to the passage of HB 2504, the threshold for retaining ballot access in Texas has been lowered, qualifying GPTX for the ballot at least through 2026. This is great news for all of us who have fought for years to push ideas like the Green New Deal into the public debate. In fact, every major social advancement in US history has been championed by alternative parties, from the abolition of slavery to women's suffrage, from social security and medicare to marijuana decriminalization and today's push for the Green New Deal. Social movements need a political vehicle to state their demands in the electoral arena, and Greens are committed to doing this and more as we fight for a livable future for all.

    Call for Down Ticket Candidates

GPTX seeks Green individuals to run in down ticket races on the 2020 ballot. We are presently updating our candidate information and resources to reflect HB 2504 changes, which include a new filing fee requirement for our convention-nominated candidates commensurate with the primary filing fee & petition requirements of major party candidates. For this reason and so many others, we need Greens to donate now to support party operations.

    Annual State Meeting

Texas Greens met in Temple, TX on June 8 & 9 for our annual meeting, where we elected new officers and discussed party business, particularly ways to make participation easier for Greens across the state. Look for the SEC to begin facilitating statewide "State Council" webinars where you can keep up to date & contribute your opinion to ongoing operations in the near future.

Texas Greens at the Annual State Meeting were also addressed by two GPUS presidential candidates, Dario Hunter and Howie Hawkins
